Microtunnelling

Terra Solutions own and operate a fleet of Herrenknecht AVN microtunnelling machines.  Worldwide, more than 600 Herrenknecht Utility Tunnelling Machines (Ø < 4.20m) excavate modern supply and disposal tunnels and renovate existing systems.  The Herrenknecht machines are renowned for their ability to excavate any type of ground, from silts and sands through to hard rock.  It is no wonder that Herrenknecht have grown to become world market leader for this type of tunnelling equipment.

The machines are fully automatic and use slurry to balance the ground water pressure and to remove excavation arisings.  The machine is driven from a control container.  Cutter head configuration can be changed to suit the prevailing ground conditions.  Excavation by chisel pick is suitable for cohesive soils, but granular material may warrant a change to point attack picks.  To change the entire cutter head for one with roller discs for rock cutting is a matter of undoing a few bolts.
