Shaftsinking
Terra Solutions Ltd has extensive experience in the construction of shafts by various techniques. Our own modern plant and equipment is utilised, enabling instant familiarity with its capabilities and range.
- Segmental shafts
Caissons are sunk using our own hydraulic shaft jacks. These are mounted on to vertical frames which mount directly on to the concrete guide collar. The hydraulic assemblies allow for the building of successive rings and their guidance for verticality when sinking. Our own hydraulic grabs and excavators are used for removal of spoil. Lubrication is provided using a bentonite supplied by Terra’s sister company, Drilling Supplies Ireland, and mixed and injected using our own bespoke plant.
Shafts constructed by underpinning utilise the same pre-cast concrete segments but are built from the top down. Once again, Terra’s own plant is utilised for the construction.
- Pre-cast caisson units
The smaller diameter circular shafts can be constructed from pre-cast circular caisson units. These offer considerable time savings over the traditional segmental caissons. They may be sunk using hydraulic jacks or under gravity using the rings’ own self weight.
- Sheeted shafts
Our fleet of hydraulic excavators ensures that we always have the right machine for the size of shaft required. Terra’s shaft sinking experience covers both “dig and push” and pre-driven sheet piling.
